Geld in Kürze by Daniel Deckner is a German-language book on the history of money. This is the German softcover. You can also read it as an ebook .
What is Geld in Kürze about?
Deckner asks what cocoa beans, shells, the Rai stones of Yap, gold, paper money and Bitcoin have in common, and why each of them served as money in its time. Over 25 chapters he follows the evolution of money, from simple goods to modern software money. For each kind of money he looks at how it works, its properties, its strengths and weaknesses, and why people chose it.
The book also covers monetary collapses and what they meant for the people affected. He looks at Bitcoin and central bank digital currencies against the background of their predecessors. One of the questions is whether central bank digital currencies are an alternative to Bitcoin.
