Social currencies, currencies and Bitcoin: what is the book about?
The author wants to introduce Bitcoin and blockchains into the social sciences, from an anthropological and economic perspective, without skipping the mathematical and technical foundations. In his view the subject is still largely unexplored there, and earlier work is aimed more at spreading knowledge than at academic discussion.
The book treats digital currencies as one form of currency among others. That is why the whole first part is about currencies in general and about the theories from economics and anthropology. Money and currency are marginal subjects in both fields, he writes.
