Buy the NerdMiner T-Display S3: The Most Affordable Way to Get Started in Bitcoin Mining

Would you like to participate directly in the Bitcoin network without investing a fortune in hardware? For €39, the NerdMiner T-Display S3 gives you your own spot in the global Bitcoin hash power. Not as a revenue model, but as a participation tool: you contribute to the decentralization of the network and gain an understanding of how buying nerdminer works at the lowest level.

The NerdMiner T-Display S3 is based on the LILYGO T-Display S3 module with an ESP32-S3 processor. The hashrate is approximately 77 KH/s. This is intentionally not an ASIC chip: the device is inexpensive, educational, and completely open source, developed by the Bitcoin community. You can view, modify, and contribute to the firmware on GitHub. That’s how open source is supposed to work.

How does the NerdMiner T-Display S3 work?

The NerdMiner connects to your network via Wi-Fi and then to Public Pool (public-pool.io). Public Pool is an open-source solo mining pool: each participant mines independently but shares the infrastructure. About every ten minutes, there’s a chance to find a valid Bitcoin block. Whoever finds that block first receives the full block reward plus all transaction fees in that block: currently 3.125 BTC. No splitting, no pool shares, the entire pot is yours alone.

The chances of a NerdMiner are slim. With 77 KH/s compared to a network hashrate of many exahashes per second, you’re statistically just a drop in the ocean. But the chance isn’t zero, and every second the device is running, you’re contributing to the decentralization of the Bitcoin network. For many people, that’s the real reason to do it. It’s not a slogan; it’s a conclusion.

Plug-and-play: no technical knowledge required

The setup for the NerdMiner T-Display S3 has been deliberately kept simple. You connect it via Wi-Fi by following the on-screen instructions, open the web interface in your browser, and enter your Public Pool address and your Bitcoin wallet address. No Linux, no command line, and no soldering iron required. If you can set up a Wi-Fi router, you can set up a NerdMiner. The step-by-step instructions are in the NerdMiner T-Display S3 Installation Guide.

The power consumption is about 5 to 10 watts, comparable to a USB phone charger. You can leave it on 24/7 without a significant effect on your electricity bill. For more information on pool selection for smaller miners, see the Guide to Choosing a Bitcoin Mining Pool.

Comparison: NerdMiner vs. the rest

Model Hashrate Chip Power consumption
NerdMiner T-Display S3 about 77 KH/s ESP32-S3 5 to 10 W
Bitaxe Supra about 700 GH/s BM1368 about 15 W
Bitaxe Gamma about 1.1 TH/s BM1370 about 18 W
Bitaxe Gamma Silent about 1.1 TH/s BM1370 about 18 W
Nerdaxe Gamma about 1.1 TH/s BM1370 about 18 W
Bitaxe Naja Duo about 4.4 TH/s 2x BM1373 about 42 W
NerdQaxe++ about 4.8 TH/s 4x BM1370 about 76 to 80 W
NerdOctaxe Gamma approximately 9.6 TH/s 8x BM1370 circa 160 W

The NerdMiner is the most affordable entry-level model. If you want more hashrate, the Bitaxe Gamma the logical next step: the same plug-and-play philosophy, but with an ASIC chip for 24,000 times more hash power at three times the price. If you are going to earn sats, make sure you store them securely via a Hardware Wallet.

FAQ: NerdMiner T-Display S3

Can you really earn Bitcoin with a NerdMiner?

Solo mining works like a lottery: there’s a draw every ten minutes, and whoever finds a valid block receives the full block reward, currently 3.125 BTC, plus transaction fees. At approximately 77 KH/s, the probability of a NerdMiner is statistically low. The appeal lies not in the expected return, but in participating in the network and the chance that always exists as long as the device is running.

How do you set up a NerdMiner T-Display S3?
  1. Connect the device to your home network via WiFi (instructions on the screen).
  2. Open the web interface via the IP address that appears on the display.
  3. Enter your Public Pool address and your Bitcoin wallet address.
  4. Save. The device will start mining immediately.

The full step-by-step instructions are in the NerdMiner Installation Guide.

Is the NerdMiner suitable for beginners?

Yes. The NerdMiner T-Display S3 is specifically designed as a plug-and-play device, requiring no command line or technical knowledge. If you can set up a Wi-Fi connection, you can set up this device.

Which pole do you use with a NerdMiner?

The most used choice is Public Pool (public-pool.io), the largest open source solo mining pool. For an overview of alternatives and settings, see the Guide to Choosing a Bitcoin Mining Pool.
