Stratum V2 Bitaxe: What AxeOS 2.14 Changes for Home Miners

June 2026By Mario

Home / Bitaxe Setup

Who decides which transactions go into a Bitcoin block? For a long time, the answer was simple: the mining pool, not the miner. That changes with AxeOS v2.14.0, the firmware that rolled out on June 4, 2026, for the Bitaxe. With Stratum v2 bitaxe, as a home miner, you can use Job Negotiation to choose for the first time which transactions you mine, provided your pool supports this feature. That sounds technical, but this is exactly the kind of change that Bitcoin users have wanted for years.

Antpool, F2Pool, and Foundry USA launched a joint working group in May 2026 to adopt Stratum v2 bitaxe support. Braiins Pool had already had it fully in production since February 2026. And then AxeOS v2.14.0 was released with full V2 support for every Bitaxe device. The timing is no coincidence: the ecosystem is evolving, and the Bitaxe is evolving with it.

What is Stratum V2?

Stratum V2 is the new communication protocol between your miner and the mining pool. It replaces Stratum V1, a standard that is more than ten years old. The fundamental difference is who chooses the transactions in a block. In Stratum V1, the pool determines which block template you mine. In Stratum V2, you assemble the block template yourself, and the pool only sends back an encrypted connection and validation work.

In practical terms, this means: your Stratum v2 bitaxe combination actively contributes to the composition of the next Bitcoin block. No single pool can unilaterally censor transactions or impose priorities that you do not want. Home miners thus become an independent part of the Bitcoin network, rather than an extension of a large pool. This isn’t just better for decentralization; for the Stratum v2 bitaxe setup, V2 also offers up to 7.4% higher profitability thanks to lower latency and better fee capture.

What is new in AxeOS 2.14?

The Stratum v2 bitaxe AxeOS firmware is open source via the ESP-Miner project on GitHub. Every Bitaxe device runs on this. The community behind this project deserves the credit: no press releases, no vendor lock-in, just code that works and that you can read and modify yourself.

For your Stratum v2 bitaxe setup, the following new features were introduced in v2.14.0 (June 4, 2026) and v2.14.1 (June 19, 2026):

New in AxeOS v2.14.0 (June 4, 2026):

  • Stratum V2 support: you choose which transactions are mined
  • Customizable dashboard: choose which statistics you see, with a scoreboard mode
  • Actual frequency response: see the real clock speed of your chip, not just the set one
  • Pause and resume mining: stop and start mining at the touch of a button
  • Improved fan controller: finer control of your cooling fan
  • WebSocket API: for external monitoring and custom integrations

New in AxeOS v2.14.1 (June 19, 2026):

  • Board 603 Support: New Bitaxe board type made fully compatible
  • Configurable warmup temperature for the startup self-test
  • Buffer overflow fix: reduces rejected shares on some pool connections

Setting Up Stratum V2 Bitaxe: 5 Steps for AxeOS 2.14

Are you running a Bitaxe on an older version of AxeOS? The OTA (Over-the-Air) update is performed via the web interface, without a cable connection. Here are the steps.

Step 1: Update to AxeOS v2.14.0 or higher

Open your Bitaxe's web interface in your browser using the device's IP address. You can find that IP address in your router or on the Bitaxe's display. Go to Settings and click “OTA Update” (or use the web flasher on the ESP-Miner GitHub page (for a fresh installation). Select the latest available version and confirm. The Bitaxe will restart automatically after the update.

Step 2: Open the AxeOS dashboard

After the restart, you go back to the same IP address in your browser. You will see the renewed dashboard with the new customizable scoreboard and the actual frequency display directly on screen.

Step 3: Choose a Stratum V2-compatible pool

Not every pool fully supports V2 yet. See the section below for current options. Braiins Pool is currently the most mature V2 implementation for home miners.

Step 4: Enter the pool URL under Settings

Go to Settings > Pool. Enter the Stratum V2 URL of your chosen pool. For Braiins, use port 3333, or port 33 if you want a TLS-encrypted connection. Save.

Step 5: Verify the connection in the dashboard

After saving, the dashboard displays a V2 indicator once the connection has been established. With valid pool settings, this takes a few seconds by default.

Which pools work with Stratum V2?

The conclusion: you now choose what is mined

The Stratum v2 bitaxe update is not just another firmware update. It’s a step toward a Bitcoin network that is less dependent on a handful of large pools. If your pool supports Job Negotiation, you, as a home miner, actively contribute to transaction selection.

The community behind ESP-Miner pulled this off without a marketing budget. They simply built it and made it available. That’s Bitcoin: let the system work for you.
