Buy the Bitaxe Gamma Silent: Solo mining without the noise
Do you want the performance of the Bitaxe Gamma, but do you plan to run it in your living room or home office? Then the Bitaxe Gamma Silent is the better choice. It features the exact same BM1370 chip and the exact same hashrate of approximately 1.1 TH/s at about 18 watts, but with a Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM fan that reduces the noise level to approximately 17 to 18 decibels. That’s quieter than a modern laptop under load.
The Bitaxe Gamma Silent is model 601 of the fifth-generation Bitaxe series. The case is made of black anodized aluminum, which also makes it more aesthetically pleasing for a home environment. The price difference from €129 to €214.99 is entirely due to the Noctua fan, one of the quietest and most reliable PC fans on the market. You pay more, but you also get peace of mind with 24/7 use.
Quieter than you think: Noctua in practice
Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM is a specific fan known in the PC community as one of the quietest fans in its class. Approximately 17 to 18 dB means in practice: the device is audible when you are standing right next to it in a completely silent room, but no longer distinguishable from the background when you are sitting a meter away. In a living room with ambient noise from daily life, a television, or an air conditioner, the Gamma Silent is not audible.
Compare that to a standard industrial-grade miner: it operates at 60 to 80 dB and belongs in a separate server room. The Bitaxe Gamma Silent is specifically designed for home use, next to your desk, in your home office, or in the living room. BitcoinStuffStore is an official EU reseller of Bitaxe, so here, too, you’re buying with an EU warranty from a company that knows what it’s selling.
Gamma vs Gamma Silent: when do you choose which?
| Property | Bitaxe Gamma | Bitaxe Gamma Silent |
|---|---|---|
| Hashrate | ~1.1 TH/s | ~1.1 TH/s |
| Chip | BM1370 | BM1370 |
| Power consumption | ~18W | ~18W |
| Ventilator | Standard | Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM |
| Noise level | Audible | ~17-18 dB |
| Housing | Standard | Black anodized aluminum |
| Price | €129 | €214,99 |
The choice is simple: if you use the miner in a workspace where noise does not matter, the standard Bitaxe Gamma the better price. If you use it 24/7 in a living space or in an office where other people are present, the Noctua fan more than earns back the price difference in comfort. Do you want more hashrate in the same silent category? Then check out the NerdQaxe++, which combines the four BM1370 chips for 4.8 TH/s and also features a Noctua fan as standard.
For a comprehensive comparison, see the article Bitaxe Gamma vs. NerdQaxe++. Both firmware updates and the AxeOS setup procedure are identical to the standard Gamma. The Bitaxe Gamma Firmware Guide applies to both models.
